Some warbuild fliers that show aggression to certain people or other warbuilds may be flight-blocked to prevent attack. However, Seekers, Helos and especially Shuttles can be trained to accept flight requests or 'commands' and this removes the need for rectricting flight. "Clipped" fliers should not be taken outdoors unrestrained, as even clipped Seekers have been known to fly away when spooked outdoors.
In addition to the physical effects of wing-clipping, there can be adverse behavioural effects. Seekers and Shuttles use flight as a hard-coded reflex action and as their first means of escaping any threat: they take to the air. Where this behaviour is prevented by flight-blocking, this innate reflex action is denied the flier, and its fear and agression will not subside. This may cause behavioural problems for the afflicted Seekers, Triplechangers and, more rarely, Shuttles and Helos.
When a flier needs to reduce its speed during landing, it employs a 'reverse thrust' action by transforming and extending its legs forward. Shuttles and most Seeker-builds can use the drag of their air-breaks in their primary form. While the reduced function of the blocked turbines and restriсted wing motion prevents propulsion and proper lift, this also reduces braking abilies, so clipped fliers may crash-land at higher speeds than full-winged ones. Helos are prone to these kind of accidents to a lesser extent due to their slower speeds.
So far there is no evidence to show that clipped flier warbuilds are safer than full-winged ones, only that clipped Seekers, Shuttles, Triple-Changers and even Helos are prone to different kinds of accidents and malfunctions than full-winged fliers.

While clipped fliers are less likely to fly out into no-flight zones, they are more prone to some other dangers including self-harm (e.g., ramming).
Most warbuilds are highly adapted to flight. Some subtypes may fly vast distances searching for Energon. Flying is their function and essential for them if they are to be well-maintained. Denying pet fliers the opportunity to fly may also contribute to sedentary behavior, system deterioration and related coding problems. However, a correctly flight-restricted Seeker or a light Shuttle will still be able to fly short distances in most cases, which, due to the clipping, will cost more energy, resulting in a more intense training of the systems involved in flying.
Clipped Seekers, Helos and Shuttles sometimes appear insecure and less confident, perhaps from their inability to escape from perceived threats. The threat-assessing subsystem of a warbuild cannot be tweaked easily. Moreover, over-restricted fliers with heavily fixated wings and capped thrusters may develop balance problems — they fall easily, contributing to insecure or fearful behavior.
It is very easy for an inexperienced downgrader to «overclip» a winged warbuild. There were cases when Seekers and Shuttles that have not been clipped properly and have had their flight systems locked down too thoroughly may not be able to land safely. Over-clipped fliers be badly injured if they fall from a height or attempt to fly.
With some simple training, most tame flighted warbuilds can be as easy to handle as clipped ones.
Wing clipping may create a false sense of security in owners. Even clipped warbuilds are innately violent, have fuel-wasteful responses and, if spooked or angered, are still capable of a short, powerful burst of flight.
With the exception of the door-wingers, all winged builds are flying creatures; they have no behavioural repertoire to cope with flightlessness. Where a flier's ability to carry out its reflex escape response is thwarted by being clipped, it may develop behavioural problems associated with fear, disobedience, uncontrolled violence and self-harn. The new Prime-approved position recommends leaving the flier with the ability to fly normally, while teaching it flight commands that should ensure adhering to flight path and safe flying for everyone involved.
Advocates note that a properly done blocking does not damage the wings and propulsion subsystems, and is painless and reversable. Many owners choose to restrict a flier's wings initially while taming it, and then allow it controlled flight. Some owners may also choose to implement partial restriction just enough to slow their pet down, without preventing airborn locomotion.<...>
